I am a student of post-colonial francophone and anglophone literature who is attempting to become a tenured professor. The fact that I have at least one more year until I have a seventy percent chance of getting into a PhD program, another five years until I have a seventy percent chance of getting a tenure track position, and four to seven years until I am reviewed for tenure is not daunting in the least. And yes I'm lying through my teeth. The amount of part time work to which I will subject myself during the next six years will be hilarious in retrospect only. I enjoy the substitute teaching I am doing now, but I would love to have my own classroom with college students who are paying to be there, and thus, in theory care about the course. I'm interested in quality family-time, lively conversation, good food, and genuine relationships but the bulk of my personality centers around my career goal. I think it has to be if I want to be a voice in the field, but I'd also like to think that most twenty-somethings are preoccupied with career goals and that this preoccupation isn't making me into a boring person.
